FOSTERING EQUITY IN NORTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA
Standing with Northern BC communities, every step of the way.
The John Howard Society of Northern BC is a community organisation that believes people can move forward when support is real, local and rooted in dignity. We help individuals find stability through housing that focuses on social equity and belonging.
Who We Are

John Howard (1726-1790) inspired the creation of social service agencies in several countries.
We are neighbours helping neighbours. Our team walks alongside people who are facing barriers, making changes, or rebuilding after difficult moments. We offer a safe place to land so people can take the next steps that feel right for them.
Our Core Values
We believe people can grow, heal and find stability when they are met with dignity and real support. Our values shape how we show up for our neighbours across Northern BC and how we walk beside people making meaningful changes in their lives.
Dignity
We treat every person with respect, patience and care. No one is defined by their past or their hardest moment.
Belonging
We create spaces where people feel welcome, included and safe. Stronger connections help people build confidence and community ties.
Compassion
We listen without judgment and offer the support people need to move forward. Small acts of understanding can open the door to real stability.
Equity
We stand for equal treatment and fairness for everyone, especially those facing barriers in housing, justice or community life. Everyone deserves the chance to feel safe, included and valued.
Community
We work with local partners, families and neighbours to strengthen our region. Healthy communities are built when we look out for one another.
Hope
We believe change is always possible. With the right support, people can rebuild stability, relationships and self-confidence.

WHAT WE DO
We keep our work open because people deserve clarity about the services that shape their lives and their neighbourhoods. When information is easy to find, trust grows and community gets stronger. Our annual reports highlight the people we support, the outcomes we see, and the funding that keeps our programs running.
Join a Team That Makes Community Stronger
Joining our staff team means working with people who care deeply about community. Our workplace is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect. Staff come from many backgrounds and bring their own strengths to the work.
Your Time Can Change Someone’s Path Forward
Volunteers make an enormous difference. Whether you enjoy conversation, mentorship, outdoor work, or community connection, there is a place for you here. Your time can help someone feel valued and ready to move forward.
Funders
We are fortunate to have a strong and diverse range of individuals, organizations, governments, and other stakeholders supporting the work of The Northern John Howard Society of British Columbia. It is recognized that we must work together to create safe, healthy and inclusive communities, and we are thankful to work in partnership with our funders to provide innovative, effective, and sustainable programming that meets the needs of the people we serve.
